Chapter: Semiclassical evolution

(ChaosBook.org blog, chapter Semiclassical evolution) — Predrag Cvitanovic 2009-11-30

Section: Hamilton-Jacobi theory

2009-11-30 PC regarding Madelung fluid formulation of Quantum Mechanics, and the Bohm hot-air interpretation of the same:

F. Borondo, A. Luque, J. Villanueva and D. A. Wisniacki A dynamical systems approach to Bohmian trajectories might be of interest. They say:

“Vortices play a key role in the dynamics of the quantum trajectories defined within the framework of the de Broglie-Bohm formalism of quantum mechanics. The motion of a vortex in the associated velocity field can induce chaos. In this paper, we show how the theory of dynamical systems can be used to construct a general and systematic classification of such dynamical behaviors. This should contribute to establish some firm grounds on which the studies on the intrinsic stochasticity of Bohm's quantum trajectories can be based.”

Then they apply the method to 2-dimensional isotropic harmonic oscillator and it's chaotic. Not Hamiltonian, but time reversible. They say that they avoid the errors of earlier literature. They have been at this for a while, there is a bunc of earlier papers cited.
